CCDC 221 is the Canadian Construction Documents Committee bid bond form. CCDC 222 is the performance bond form. Alberta municipal tenders often require these (or named equivalents) at specified percentages — commonly about 10% bid security and 50% performance, plus a labour and material payment bond. Using the wrong CCDC number or an outdated edition is a compliance fail.
CCDC 221 vs CCDC 222
CCDC 221 accompanies the bid: it penalizes walking away after award (subject to the bond wording). CCDC 222 backs performance of the contract. A payment bond is a separate instrument. The tender will list which forms and editions to use. Download from the source named in the RFP or have the surety issue on that form.
Can I use last year's bond PDF?
Only if the form, principal name, obligee (the municipality), job description, and percentage still match. Obligee name must match the owner in the tender — City of Calgary vs The City of Calgary vs a commission.
Who fills these out?
Your surety. You provide the tender details. We check that what comes back matches the instructions to bidders.
How this shows up on Alberta municipal work
Calgary, Edmonton, and regional municipalities routinely specify CCDC bond forms on construction ITTs. Facilities and snow contracts may use different security. Read each package. National alert tools will not interpret the form number for you.
Is CCDC the same as a CSA document?
No. CCDC is the construction contract/bond document set used across Canada. Do not confuse it with CSA standards or with provincial bond acts.
What if the RFP says 'or equivalent'?
Ask the contact in writing before close if your surety's form differs. Do not assume equivalent after the fact.
